Catholic school in Orlando: how the Florida scholarship, parish rates and aid fit together

10 of the 12 Catholic schools in the Orange County state record take the Florida scholarship. Here is how families stack it with parish rates and aid.

TL;DR: The state directory lists 12 Catholic schools in the Orange County district, and 10 are flagged to receive the Florida Private School Scholarship. The scholarship pays tuition up to $8,420 (K-3), $7,831 (4-8) or $7,639 (9-12); parish rates and school aid then work on whatever tuition is left. Bishop Moore's posted high school rates show why that last step matters.

How many Catholic schools are there in Orange County, and which take the scholarship?

The Florida DOE directory lists 12 schools with a Catholic affiliation in the Orange County district, and 10 carry the FTC/FES-EO participant flag; the two that do not are JMJ Academy and Sancta Familia Academy.

The Diocese of Orlando describes its own system more broadly: 39 schools across eight of the nine counties it covers, made up of five high schools, 29 elementary schools, one special education school and four early childhood centers. Only the Orange County schools appear in our directory. The table lists each, with enrollment from the latest state survey ("n/r" means none reported).

What does Bishop Moore Catholic High School charge in Orlando?

Bishop Moore's tuition page, as read on October 28, 2026, still shows 2024-25 rates of $15,528 for Catholic families and $21,420 for non-Catholic families.

The page lists a $575 registration fee, a family service fee for the FACTS payment plan, uniforms at $400 to $500, an iPad at $450 and further athletics, parking and testing costs. It says the school accepts FTC, FES-EO and FES-UA scholarships, that a student can use only one, and that scholarships apply to tuition only while the parent pays the balance and every other cost. Against the $7,639 Orange County award for grades 9-12, the Catholic-family rate would leave $7,889 before aid and before the fees; confirm the 2026-27 numbers with the school.

Is the Florida scholarship the same as Catholic tuition assistance?

No: the scholarship is a state payment that follows the child, while tuition assistance is the school's or parish's own aid, awarded after the family applies and decided by that school.

The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida says it has distributed more than $2.4 million for Catholic schools since 2014 and accepts donations toward tuition assistance, but the page we reviewed does not publish an application or a dollar amount for families. Ask the school's business office which funds it can reach.

How should an Orlando family sequence the money for a Catholic school?

Start with the state application, because it is the largest and most predictable piece, and then ask the school for its net price after the award.

  1. Apply for the Private School Scholarship through Step Up or AAA by November 15, 2026 if the child is new.
  2. Ask the school for the parishioner or sibling rate and for the aid application deadline.
  3. Accept the award in EMA by December 15 and make sure the school submits the enrollment for the next quarter.
  4. Look at the 2027 federal credit when its application opens.

Our Catholic tuition guide and the Catholic school directory carry the same figures with the flags.

What questions should a family ask a Catholic school before enrolling?

Ask the school for its full 2026-27 fee schedule, split into what the scholarship can pay and what it cannot.

Then ask whether non-Catholic families pay a different rate, whether the school works with both Step Up and AAA, and when the next enrollment submission falls. A school that is flagged as a participant can still be full in a given grade, so call before you plan around it.

What does the state directory leave out about a Catholic school?

The directory leaves out tuition, aid policy, parish ties and openings, which are the four things a family usually decides on.

It does show the grade range, the denomination, enrollment and the scholarship flags. Those are useful: the table above shows that most of the Orange County Catholic schools serve pre-K or kindergarten through eighth grade, while a few run through grade 12, and that enrollment ranges from single digits to more than 1,600. What it cannot show is the sibling discount, the parishioner rate, the registration fee or how much aid a school can offer in the middle of a year.

That is why we suggest calling the business office rather than the admissions desk first. Business offices can quote the fee schedule and explain how a scholarship payment is applied. Ask for the figures in writing, ask whether the rate applies to the whole year or only to the first term, and compare the net price after the award at two or three schools. The what is left after the award page lists examples of how different the results can be.
