How does free VPK work for an Orlando 4-year-old?

A child who turns 4 by September 1 is entitled to a free VPK year. The parent requests a certificate of eligibility in Florida's Family Portal and gives it to a participating provider.

That provider might be a public school, a private school, a church preschool or a child-care center.

Who runs VPK and School Readiness in Orange County?

The Early Learning Coalition of Orange County runs both programs locally, covering enrollment, provider oversight and child-care referrals.

Which Orlando private schools offer pre-K?

The Orange County listing has 145 schools that serve pre-K, and each school page advises you to confirm VPK status. A child who does VPK at a private school can move up to kindergarten there on the $8,420 K-3 award.

FES-UA starts at age 3 and can fund a child with a qualifying developmental need, covering a preschool seat and therapies.
